Science Advisory Committee (SAC)

The Science Advisory Committee (SAC) advises the TMT and
Project on all matters related to the science case and
science-based requirements. The SAC maintains two foundation
documents: the Science-based Requirements and the
Detailed Science Case.

The SAC consists of scientists from TMT partners. Each
partner has a designated SAC co-chair, who is the primary
contact point for each partner. The SAC also includes
several members of the at-large North American astronomical
community. SAC membership changes periodically.

The Project and Observatory Scientists are ex officio SAC members.

Observers are invited to participate on a case-by-case basis. Current observers represent the AURA/NOAO GSMT Program Office (on behalf of the US National Science Foundation) and the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan.

The SAC co-chairs meet weekly by telephone. Meetings of the
complete SAC occur 3 - 4 times per year.
