Robert P. Kirshner named TIO Executive Director; Edward C. Stone announces retirement from TIO

Dr. Robert P. Kirshner, Chief Program Officer for Science at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and the Clowes Professor of Science emeritus at Harvard University, has been named TIO Executive Director, effective May 15, 2022.

For example, over the past few weeks I’ve been teaching astrobiology at an elementary school. So, I’m always on the lookout for interesting and novel education materials to help convey the excitement of astronomy to the next generation.

TMT Appoints Dr. Fengchuan Liu as Project Manager

Dr. Fengchuan Liu has been named project manager of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT), where he will lead the observatory design and development. He most recently served as acting project manager and was also the deputy project manager from 2015 to 2020. He is currently based in Hilo on Hawaii Island.

TMT was pleased to join the Maunakea Observatories in celebrating AstroDay on November 14, 2021 at Kona Commons Shopping Center in Kona. AstroDay continues to be a leading community outreach program for the observatories.
