Last week, a group of aspiring young astronauts went through a simulation of a space mission, looking for signs of extraterrestrial life in our Solar System. The children acted out a script based on NASA/JPL's deployment of the Curiosity Rover on Mars, and also the movie "Europa Report" for the landing on Europa.
Pasadena, CA (June 06, 2019) – A Segment Support Assembly (SSA) “pre-build” meeting at the Coimbatore facility of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) was successfully completed on May 22, 2019. The meeting was aimed at assessing the readiness of the L&T team to start manufacturing their first SSAs. Participants included India TMT Coordination Centre (ITCC) and the TMT Project Office team.
The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has issued a notice to proceed (NTP) to the University of Hawaii for the Thirty Meter Telescope on Maunakea. The NTP is a formal communication indicating that all pre-construction conditions and mitigation measures specifically required as a condition of the Conservation District Use Permit (CDUP) have been met. With the NTP, TMT can proceed with construction.

Pasadena, CA – May 15, 2019 – The TMT Observatory Executive Software (ESW), which will provide the core functionality needed to enable observations of science programs for on-site and remote observers, recently passed the first phase of final design review.
A couple of weeks ago I was in Mumbai, to give a talk on TMT at "Vigyan Samagam—Pushing the Frontiers of Science”. The event was organized by the Indian government, to showcase India’s contributions to large international collaborations in fundamental science and research.
On May 08 2019, the India TMT team presented the TMT pavilion at “Vigyan Samagam”, the first global science exhibition in Mumbai. A scaled, animated model of the Thirty Meter Telescope, a gallery of posters, and informational material have been created for public outreach.
