The Scientific Landscape for Extremely Large Telescopes in Light of JWST. Part 2 – Asia

The Extremely Large Telescopes (ELTs) will be the premier optical-infrared facilities on Earth starting in the 2030s. These telescopes will offer diffraction-limited spatial resolution and sensitivity that matches their large apertures, surpassing anything available on the ground or in space. The upcoming ELTs will be the complement to space missions as well as JWST.

The goal of this conference is to review and highlight recent JWST discoveries and study their implications for the science operations of ELTs and planning of their instrumentation and user services.

In order to maximize participation and minimize carbon footprint, the June 2024 conference in Japan will be the second event to be held at Tohoku University, after the first conference in UCLA in the U.S. The next, third, meeting of the ELT Science in Light of JWST series will be held in Europe.
