ʻAle Lau Loa Global Youth Ambassador Program

A new County of Hawaiʻi sister-city program created in partnership with TMT is promoting cultural learning and exchanges between high school students, with an emphasis on sharing Hawaiian culture and knowledge.

We were excited to join and support the inaugural trip of ʻAle Lau Loa last October to Okinawa and look forward to more amazing connections between Hawaiʻi students and indigenous communities across the globe. Prior to their trip, students learned hula, oli, the Hawaiian star compass and wayfinding from cultural practitioners.

These annual student exchanges are funded by TMT as part of our commitment to support a community-based model of astronomy that is inclusive of indigenous knowledge and culture.
