Engineers and scientists over at the National Research Council in Canada are busy preparing some very special pizza boxes for TMT. But forget pepperoni, these boxes are packed with high-tech electronics that control TMT’s highly advanced adaptive optics system, NFIRAOS.
NFIRAOS uses over 7000 tiny actuators to adjust its special mirrors with incredible precision in order to cancel the blur caused by the Earth’s atmosphere. This allows the TMT to get super-sharp, clear images of distant stars and galaxies. The team has just finalized the design and is now moving on to build and test a sample before producing the 41 needed for delivery to NFIRAOS.
