TIO is considering the Spanish offer
July 31st, 2025
Spain’s proposal (translation to English via Google) is a positive development for TMT. We are reviewing the proposal details carefully and we look forward to continued dialogue with our Spanish colleagues.
Meanwhile, technical progress on TMT remains strong, with 85% of components in final design or fabrication and 160 of 492 mirror segments already in advanced stages.
TMT will allow a major step forward in astronomy by enabling significant advances in the search for life on other planets, our understanding the nature of dark matter and dark energy, and the origins and early evolution of the Universe.
We remain committed to securing the best possible site and will evaluate Spain’s offer thoroughly and promptly.
