The Akamai Workforce Initiative, a local program dedicated to advancing Hawai‘i college students into science and technology careers, has announced the latest class of students for its 2016 summer internship program. With lead funding from the Thirty Meter Telescope, the Akamai Internship Program provides community college students and undergraduates with summer projects at observatories and other high tech companies in Hawaii.
TMT scientists and staff will team up again with others from the local astronomy industry in bringing science to Big Island students next week as part of the “Journey Through The Universe” educational initiative.
The Hawaii Island New Knowledge (THINK) Fund at Hawaii Community Foundation, established by TMT, continues to support teachers in Hawaii Island schools to boost STEM learning for their students. Since the classroom grants became available in November 2014, over $84,000 has been given for projects reaching 6,594 students at 25 schools island-wide.

[From UC Akamai Workforce Initiative] - The Akamai Workforce Initiative’s Internship Program announces its Student Internship Symposiums in Hilo on Wednesday August 5 from 9 am to 11:30 am at the Institute for Astronomy Auditorium (640 North A‘ohoku Place), on Friday, August 7 at the Keck Observatory’s Hualalai Theater in Waimea and on Maui at the PDC Training Room on Monday, August 10 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
Thirty-one students and teachers representing each of the Thirty Meter Telescope International Observatory partner countries gather in Hilo this weekend for an intensive five-day forum on astronomy and engineering.

As part of its commitment to invest in the next generation of scientists and engineers, the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) project awarded a special grand prize at the recent 2015 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF).
TMT will participate again at this year's Journey Through The Universe's Family Science Day and Astronomy Educators in the Classroom.
The THINK (The Hawaii Island New Knowledge) Fund application at the Pauahi Foundation opened on February 4, 2015. This is a new, multi-year scholarship fund for the Pauahi Foundation.
